Situated in an archaeological site in Oman. Qalhat Visitor Center architectural design is inspired by the natural feature of seashells and the organic shape of the wadi found in that area.

The ancient city is known as the tomb of ancestors. One of the known tombs in the area is Maryam Bibi’s, which was built with mud, corals, and seashells. The mentioned materials were commonly used during ancient times due to their availability. They are abundant in this area due to its proximity to the sea.

DESIGN CONCEPT
The project concept aims to provide a facility that will serve as a port and central hub for the visitors and tourists. It is also intended to be a landmark that showcases and exhibits the heritage value of the ancient city.

DESIGN ADAPTATION
The design adapts the idea of structures which were built with indigenous materials in ancient times and translates it into an architectural landmark in the form of a seashell.

The wadi was also integrated as an inspiration in the architectural design. Its organic shape and terrain create interesting façade opening and vibrant ambiance through cascading waters from the walls to the ground base of the structure.
