Barzan Towers

Umm Salal, Qatar

The Barzan Towers were built in the early 20th century and renovated in 1910 by Sheikh Mohammed bin Jassim Al Thani, founder of Umm Salal Mohammed village.

Barzan is the name given to the western tower, which means in classic Arabic: “high place”. The towers measure 14 meters high consisting of three levels, and with its distinctive ‘T’ shape, which is considered unique to the Gulf region. The towers were surveyed and restored by in 2003 by Ministry of Municipality and Agriculture.
