The inauguration of one of our biggest projects, Al Thumama Stadium, surely brought pride to each member of the AEB community. The stadium got unveiled for the public during the final of the Amiri Cup held on October 22nd, 2021 between Al Sadd and Al Rayyan. The game was a delight for every football fan as both teams delivered a great performance. As a result, Al Sadd beat Al Rayyan on penalties by 5-4. Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and president of FIFA, football’s world governing body, Gianni Infantino attended the opening ceremony.

In addition to the game as the main event, Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy prepared many festivities for spectators, from entertainment and cultural dances, to grand fireworks during the opening.

Our 40,000-seater stadium was nearly full and hearing the whistles blow for the first time felt like a surreal experience. Al Thumama stadium is one of the eight stadia which will be used for FIFA 2022 world cup games. After the major event, the stadium will be partially dismantled, and various facilities will be added with the purpose of serving local teams and public as part of the legacy initiative.
